    William Jefferson Life's Journey

William Jefferson (Bill) Clinton (Hope (Arkansas), August 19, 1946) was the 42nd President of the United States from 1993-2001.
An American politician of the Democratic Party. Clinton was from 1977 to 1979 and prosecutor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1992 the 40th and 42nd Governor of Arkansas. In 1992 Clinton won with running mate Al Gore the election of 1992. And defeated incumbent President George H.W. Bush. During the 1996 elections he won a second term.

Bill Clinton was born in Arkansas and raised in Hot Springs in the state. His name, William Jefferson Blythe III, refers to his father, William Jefferson Blythe Jr.. That three months before his son's birth, died following a car accident. Clinton was raised by his mother and his stepfather Roger Clinton, and gradually wrested his poor environment. When he was in 1963, President John F. Kennedy during a visit to the White House and met Martin Luther King his historic "I Have a Dream" speech gave Clinton decided to pursue a career in politics.
In 1968 he graduated from Georgetown University and won the prestigious Rhodes scholarship for the university in the English Oxford. In 1973 he received the degree of "Juris Doctor" at the Yale Law School.
During his time at Yale Law School, he met Hillary Rodham. They married in 1975. Five years later, in 1980, their only child was born, daughter Chelsea Clinton.

After several years as a law professor to have taught at the University of Arkansas, Clinton was Attorney General (Prosecutor) of Arkansas.
In 1978 Clinton was elected as the 40th Governor of Arkansas, but lost reelection in 1980 to his Republican challenger, Frank D. White. Clinton spent the next two years to his comeback. In 1982, he managed to be re-elected as the 42nd Governor. He served six terms in total length the position of Governor of Arkansas, namely from 1979 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1992.
In 1992, Clinton himself eligible for the election of 1992. By winning the Gulf War did President George HW Bush re-election assured. Several prominent Democrats argued therefore not eligible. Clinton took in the primaries up against Jerry Brown and Paul Tsongas. Clinton won the primaries by a large majority and thus the nomination of the Democratic Party. He chose Senator Al Gore of Tennessee as a running mate. Partly due to the poor economy (Clinton: "It's the economy, stupid!" - Vert. "It's the economy, stupid!"), A tax increase, and his charisma, won Clinton and Al Gore the 1992 election.

Clinton was the first Democrat since Franklin D. Roosevelt two full terms as president was filled. His election marked the end of an era of domination by the Republicans that the president had delivered during the previous twelve years and for 20 of the 24 years before. This election gave the Democrats for the first time since Jimmy Carter, back full control of the three main branches of the federal government to know both houses of Congress and the presidency.
Immediately after taking office fired Clinton an election promise by the so-called "Family and Medical Leave Act" (1993) to sign a law that companies of a certain scale forced their employees unpaid leave to be granted in cases of serious medical problems or problems within the family. That did more good for his popularity than his hesitation another promise to fix that for the acceptance of openly gay in the army to increase. From the left came the criticism that his approach was too lax, while the right believed that Clinton understood little of the army. After a long discussion decided to Clinton and the Pentagon to "Do not Ask, Do not Tell" policy ("do not ask, do not tell"), which after a long discussion on December 22, 2010 was abolished under the presidency of Barack Obama.
Clinton was there during the 90s of sustained economic growth (according to the Office of Management and Budget began as early as April 1991), decreasing unemployment and increasing prosperity as a result of the boom on Wall Street. To what extent this is due to Clinton is a much debated issue. Many positive influence was also directed by Congress and Alan Greenspan, Clinton reappointed by the head of the Federal Reserve. Also played a combination of positive developments and the favorable state of the world economy a role, things that Clinton had little influence.Between 1992 and 1994 the Democrats had a big influence, but the so-called "mid-term" elections of 1994 were a tragedy for the party. They lost their majority in House and Senate for the first time in 40 years. This was largely caused by the failed attempt by his partner, Hillary Clinton, a comprehensive public health system to create. After the 1994 election shifted the focus to the "Contract with America" ("Contract with America") promoted by "Speaker of the House" (Chairman) Newt Gingrich. The majority Republican Congress fought with Clinton on the budget. Clinton was during the 1996 elections by a wide margin at the expense of re-electedRepublican candidate Bob Dole. The Republicans held their majority in Congress, but lost a few seats. The House of Representatives began on December 19, 1998 a so-called "impeachment" proceedings against Clinton on the charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. The Senate, however, decided on February 12, 1999, in a trial that began on January 7, in order not to convict Clinton, so he could finish his second term. The procedure was about the suspected abuse and perjury. Clinton would have lied about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, something was discovered during the investigation into the Whitewater scandal further unrelated. He would have done this because of another case, a complaint by Paula Jones for sexual assault. This case was later settled for $ 850,000. A federal judge sentenced Clinton for contempt of court (lying in a statement) to pay a fine of $ 90,000. The procedures to avoid him his right to exercise the profession of lawyer to deprive himself of this right he did.
Much of Clinton's presidency was overshadowed by scandals and fake scandals, including the aforementioned Whitewater scandal. Originally, the Kenneth Starr investigation carried on a failed land deal from year earlier, but it expanded to the suicide of Clinton friend Vince Foster, the affairs Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky, and "Trooper Gate", a case that revolved around a " Trooper "of the state of Arkansas who claimed to have arranged sexual encounters for Clinton, then governor. Later withdrew the allegations that Trooper and he claimed to have received money from the conservative magazine "American Spectator". Something similar was true of Jones, who admitted having received money from conservative political groups. Starr's successor, Robert Ray, said none of the charges of persecution. Clinton developed a close working relationship with Tony Blair, British prime minister in 1997 and was elected. He showed personal interest in the Northern Ireland problem and visited the area three times in order to promote peace. This led to talks between the two camps, which culminated in the promise of the Irish Republican Army, on October 23, 2001, to disarm. Clinton succeeded in 1999, together with the Republican-dominated Congress for the first time since 1969 the budget to balance. The couple has a daughter, Clinton, Chelsea Clinton. On September 6, 2004 Clinton underwent a quadruple bypass surgery. Afterwards he had a minor surgery to remove scar tissue. Since then shows Clinton is a staunch anti-smoker.
